Review of Screenflow screencast software for the Mac

Hi everyone – I’ve been wanting to get into putting some video on the blog for ages.  I particularly want to do website tours and a few othe ideas I have which involve “screencasting”, i.e. where you make a video of what is on your computer screen, with a little “talking head” commentary superimposed.  In addition to audio, the talking head makes it a bit more interesting, and personal (now you know what I look like – no comments please!).

I remembered a blog post I saw on Boagworld, Paul Boag’s excellent podcast and blog vehicle, about capturing video, and he recommended Screenflow for Mac users (and Camtasia for Windows).  So I downloaded it and gave it a go.  Overall, really easy to use with lots of features, and for $99 I reckon very good value.  I have used the demo version for this video, which is why it has Screenflow Demo emblazened across it, but I thought that was somehow appropriate to the subject anyway!  I will definitely be buying a licence soon.

It’s also the first time I have used the Bubblecast video upload plugin for WordPress, which on the basis of this first use, is going to be number 12 in the list of 10 Dynamite WordPress Plugins!

Enjoy (or not!). Look out Hollywood, here I come!!
