search engine optimisation (seo) – some general advice

Back in the summer last year, I was invited to give two talks on search engine optimisation at Normaby Gateway, a local serviced office/business center.

The first talk was entiteld “top of the pile” and covered a wide range of basic search engine optimisation tips.  It was aimed primarily at the non-technical user or website owner, to give them a basic understanding of the benefits of seach engine optimisation, and a list of tips and techniques that they could do themselves, assuming a basic level of technical knowledge and/or interest, or something to badger their web designer or search engine optimisation specialist if not.

The second talk was specifically about Google Adwords (the sponsored results you see at the right and top of the page when you do a Google search.  I co-hosted the talk with Gary Milne from Ecommweb the search engine optimisation company,

Both talks were really well received so I thought I’d make the slide presentations available here.  When I’ve got time, I plan to distill the content into several blog posts here at Wild About Websites, but for now I have made PDFs of the presentations available below.

CAUTION:  These files are large so don’t download them if you haven’t got broadband!

File 1:  Top of the Pile part  – a guide to search engine optimisation (SEO) (21.4mb)

File 2:  Top of the Pile part 2 – Google Adwords (12.1mb)

I hope they’re useful!
